Teaching

Department of Biochemistry

Undergraduate

Undergraduate teaching at the University of Stellenbosch is structured in terms of academic teaching programmes. The Department of Biochemistry plays a central role in four B.Sc.-programmes offered by the Faculty of Science: Molecular and Cellular Biology, Biotechnology, Bio-Organic Chemistry and Human Life Sciences. We also offer one or more courses in the Biodiversity and Ecology programme.

Further details (programme structures and course curricula) are available on the web page of the School of Biological Sciences.

The module frameworks for the undergraduate modules taught by the Department of Biochemistry can be found on a separate page.

Postgraduate

The postgraduate programmes offered at our department are honours (Hons-BSc), masters (MSc) and doctorate (PhD).

Honours

The Hons-BSc in biochemistry is an integrated one-year programme offering an advanced biochemical education. In addition to factual knowledge, there is a great emphasis on generic and specific subject-related skills. Full details on a separate page.

Masters and Doctorate

The MSc and PhD programmes are advanced research degrees. Students will be required to complete an original research project in one of the research labs and write up the results in a thesis (MSc) or dissertation (PhD). If you are interested, contact the departmental chairperson.
