Community interaction

The Department provides support to the South African Food and Dairy Industry on a continuous basis.

The Department, in collaboration with Maties Community Services, trains food entrepreneurs in personal and food hygiene. This training programme forms part of the Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE)-Youth Entrepreneurial Development Programme (YEDP) projects, where grade 8 – 11 learners from the most impoverished communities, in and around Stellenbosch, are empowered by equipping them with the necessary skills to start and maintain their own businesses.
Volunteers, from the staff and student body of the Department, collect and distribute various provisions to impoverished communities, in order to alleviate needs and to promote better living standards.
