Prof Theo Kleynhans het sy loopbaan in 1984 aan die Universiteit van Stellenbosch begin. Hy is 'n landbou-ekonoom wat spesialiseer in landbou hulpbronne en omgewingsekonomie asook grondevaluering.

Prof Kleynhans het op verskeie bestuurskommittees van die Water Navorsingskommissie gedien en dien tans as lid van die tegniese technical expert committee van die Plaaslike Ekonomiese Ontwikkelingsfonds van die Provinsiale Regering van die Wes-Kaap. Hy was lid of leier van verskeie landbou en bosbou hulpbronassesseringsprojekte beie nasionaal en internasionaal. Hy het as konsultant opgetree vir verskeie provinsiale en nasionale departmente (Waterwese en Bosbou, Landbou, Handel en Nywerheid, Korperatiewe Bestuur en die Tesourie) en internasionaal(onder andere vir SAOG en FAO). Hy het al vele publikasies die lug laat sien, beide nasionaal en internasionaal, wat verskeie akademiese publikasies insluit. Prof Kleynhans het artikels by verskeie nasionale en internasionale konferensies voorgedra.

Doseringspligte sluit in landbou hulpbron- en omgewingsekonomie op voorgraadse en naagraadse vlak. Hy het al as studieleier vir 20 Meesters studente van Wageningen Universiteit ( Nederland) en KU Leuven (België) gedien.

Prof Kleynhans is 'n professionele eiendomsevalueerder en voltydse lid van die Suid-Afrikaanse Instituut vir Evalueerders. Hy is ook die direkteur van Stellemploy, 'n gemeenskapswerkskeppingsinstansie in Stellenbosch.
