The Social History Collections Department of Iziko Museums of South Africa (Cape Town) contains many ancient Classical, Egyptian and Near Eastern artefacts. The University of Stellenbosch’s Sasol Art Museum, in collaboration with the Department of Ancient Studies and Iziko, has hosted two antiquities exhibitions in recent years. The first was Living Antiquity (2005-2007) which took a broad look at artefacts from all aspects of life in antiquity. The second was Containing Antiquity, the focus of which was vessels of different types and uses (2007-2011). The antiquities owned by Iziko are currently not on display but housed in their Social History Centre in Cape Town.
