The CBP-CCR
was started in 2002 and will run until the end of 2007. It is supported
by funding from a USAID - DEA&T collaboration with logistical support
provided by the SANAP (the South African National Antarctic Programme).
The CBP-CCR
was started to fulfil the following aims around which it is structured:
... to
develop a deeper understanding of the potential impacts and effects of
climate change
on terrestrial ecosystem functioning so as to be better able to predict
the future course of climate change events both in the southern ocean
and elsewhere;
AND
... to
contribute to the development of the necessary human resource capacity
that will allow South Africa to enhance its ability both to predict the
impacts of climate change on its biodiversity estate, and to mitigate
the effects of this change.
To meet these
aims the CBP-CCR provides funding, opportunities, expertise and support
to both young and established researchers.
