DST-NRF Internship 2011/2012: Phytoplankton communities around South African oyster farms

Project topic:
Describing phytoplankton communities off the south and west coast of South Africa at oyster grow-out localities at Port Elizabeth, Saldanha and Kleinzee; field trip organisation.

Highlights of project:
Critical Thinkers Platform on Aquaculture and Emerging Technologies in South Africa (PE, 2011).

Research interests and future directions:
Phytoplankton identification and taxonomy; ecotoxicology (especially of toxin-producing phytoplankton).
