34 US students who recently obtained their Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning have just been informed that they have qualified as Certified Financial Planners (CFP®). The remarkable aspect of this achievement is the fact that 14 students passed the demanding qualifying examination with distinction. Stellenbosch University partners with the Financial Planning Institute of Southern Africa (FPI), to offer formal postgraduate qualifications giving access to membership of the FPI and the global CFP accreditation.

Prof Niel Krige, Programme Director, said, “This is a special milestone for the University.
The international pass rate for this diploma is 42% and ours has been in excess of 95%. We are proud of both the students and our lecturers.”

Mr Solly Keetse, Deputy Chairperson of the FPI, said he was delighted with the results from Stellenbosch. “The FPI is the local custodian of the international CFP mark. We are required to ensure that we maintain the international standards of quality and certification for the financial planning profession. Stellenbosch University has certainly done that here.”

“The 34 graduates from Stellenbosch University will now be invited to become FPI members, joining the other 3 200 CFP licensees in South Africa – the highest achievable global accreditation in the financial planning profession.”

The CFP Certificate is the pinnacle in financial planning qualifications. It enables financial planners to be recognised as being competent in financial planning and to be members of the FPI and to be eligible for the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® accreditation.
