Coursework in 2012
Two courses are currently on offer from the CGA in 2012: our new Introduction to Earth Observation (EO) course, first run in November last year, and our well-known Introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
The Introduction to GIS course is designed for GIS beginners, and will will run for a 5 day period from Monday 28th May until Friday 1 June at the Centre for Geographical Analysis at Stellenbosch University. The course exposes participants to both the theoretical and practical elements of GIS, including catography, map projections, data models, data manipulation, GPS training, spatial analysis and other GIS concepts essential to entry-level users.
The Introduction to EO course is designed for beginners in the field of earth observation, and will run from Monday 29th October to Friday 2 November at the Centre for Geographical Analysis at Stellenbosch University. The course exposes participants to the fundememtal remote sensing principals and techniques, including image acquisition, data preparation and pre-processing, supervised and unsupervised classification, field methodologies, and accuracy assessment. Upon completion, participants will understand the basic principles of EO and will be able to carry out an EO workflow in ENVI.
