In the early months of 2009 the C·I·B has had cause to celebrate several successes.

First on the list is a round of well-deserved promotions. Chris Chimimba at the University of Pretoria has been promoted to Full Professor. Bettine Jansen van Vuuren was promoted to Associate Professor at Stellenbosch University, and Michael Somers was promoted to Associate Professor at the University of Pretoria.

Second, the C·I·B added to its list of A-rated scientists. Steve Johnson at the University of Kwazulu-Natal received an A2 rating from the National Research Foundation, and Steven Chown at Stellenbosch University was rated an A1 researcher. The CIB now has three A-rated researchers among its core team members, including Dave Richardson at Stellenbosch University, also listed as an A1 researcher by the NRF. See for an explanation of this rating system.

With a start like this, 2009 promises to be a year filled with success.
