Research focus area

I am interested in the ecology, management and restoration of alien species. Nowadays, my research is currently focused on three main questions:

Overall, the goal of my actual research is to understand the situation of the family Cactaceae in South Africa, in order to develop a national management strategy of the whole group. Generally, Iím interested on the history of introduction, ecology, distribution, and management of the whole group of Cactaceae in South Africa.

My PhD was focused on the restoration of areas invaded by the alien species Carpobrotus edulis on the Iberian Peninsula. I looked at its dispersion by mammals, at its direct and indirect impact on soil characteristics, soil microorganisms and native species and, specially, at the restoration process that follows after the removal of Carpobrotus edulis from the invaded coastal dune ecosystems.
