Tshililo Ramaswiela
I obtained my undergraduate degree in the Department of Ecology and Environmental
Management, University of Venda in 2005. My final year project was looking at the impact of African
elephant (Loxodonta africana) on Marula tree (Sclerocarya birrea) in the Kruger
National park. My research interests lie in field of biological invasion and wildlife ecology.
I am particularly interested in conservation of large mammals.
Current Research
My current research focuses on the distribution of alien vascular plants on sub-Antarctic Marion
Island. I focus on mapping the geographical distribution of alien and determine their current status
on the island. My research also extends to priorities for control of alien plants based on feasibility
estimates. Effective control programmes require that the status of the species (i.e. indigenous or
transient, established aliens, invasive, transformer alien species) are established and that the extent
of their distribution on the island is known. Without such information, appropriate planning for
control cannot be undertaken.
