Prof. Rob Tijssen Visiting professor Professor: Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) Leiden University, Netherlands Robert Tijssen, a national of the Netherlands, is associate professor at the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS), Leiden University. He has a M.Sc. in Mathematical Psychology from the Leiden University, and a Ph.D. in Science Studies from the same university. He is the coordinator of the Netherlands Observatory of Science and Technology, the producer of the bi-annual Science and Technology Indicators Report for the Dutch government. His current research interests focus on bibliometric analysis of research excellence, evaluation of research networks and national science systems, empirical studies of industry-university research linkages, and studies of economic benefits of basic research in the public sector. He teaches on these topics, and related issues, in the CWTS graduate course. Over the last 15 years he has been involved in a large number of research and consultancy projects on science indicators. In his research career, he has established a strong international reputation for his expertise in quantitative evaluation of research performance, in particular bibliometric indicators of university publication output.His work is regularly reported in the media in the Netherlands. He acts as a consultant and data-analyst for various governments, international research organizations, and for the European Commission. He has published numerous reports and research articles in international journals, and (co-)authored a few books on topics concerning to S&T indicators and the evaluation of science.
