The Renewable Energy Simulation Platform provides an approximate understanding of the potential of different renewable energy technologies around Southern Africa. It also shows what is currently being generated by utility scale renewable energy power plants. The data collected from the SAURAN ground stations was used to model a 100 MW power station for a hypothetical photovoltaic, concentrating solar power (CSP) and wind farm placed at each SAURAN station. This results in an hourly energy production over a one year time period, which is displayed in the graph above.
