CLIMMB

Curriculum, Literacy, Mathematics and Management Buzz

In May 2009 IMSTUS, BlendED and Celemus put together a joint intervention to address literacy, numeracy and school management in specific schools in the Western Cape. The focus of the intervention in Numeracy and Literacy is on the Foundation and Intermediate Phases.

We offer leadership courses and training programmes to enhance the curriculum leadership and management capacity of principals, deputy principals, heads of department, subject heads and learning area and phase coordinators of the primary schools AND the five high schools that these schools feed into.

It is with sincere gratitude that we acknowledge the financial assistance received from the DG Murray Trust to host this project from 2010 - 2012.

January 2010: Numeracy Launch

The CLIMMB project intervention programme in mathematics at the foundation phase was launched in the 10 participating primary schools through a workshop held on 16 January 2010 at the University of Stellenbosch, were various mathematics teaching and learning materials were handed over to the schools.

The project encourages the use of teaching and learning materials at foundation phase because these

  • Arouse and maintain interest
  • Simplify instruction
  • Aid retention
  • Stimulate active thinking
  • Accelerate learning as more senses are involved
