André van der Merwe
André van der Merwe is a conductor and composer from Durbanville, Cape Town. He is often invited to perform as adjudicator and clinician across the world. Recently he has been invited to England, Sweden, Germany, Japan, China, Wales, Graz in Austria, Namibia.
André initially studied BMus at the University of Cape Town, but after an serious injury to his hand, he changed course and studied BDrama (Directing) at the Stellenbosch University. During 1990 - 1996 André directed theatre productions for the Grahamstown International Arts Festival and for the Klein Karoo Arts Festival. He received national awards and prizes as actor and director.
At present he conducts three choirs:
Stellenberg Girls Choir (1999-); Stellenbosch University Choir (2003-) and the South African Youth Choir (2005-). These choirs have won many national and international awards and prizes.
