MUSCLE BIOLOGY related to:
(i) Muscle damage and regeneration: Delayed onset muscle soreness and regeneration of muscle damage by satellite cells; satellite cell activation; myogenin expression; apoptosis; immune cell-muscle interactions; cell signaling (stress kinases; apoptosis; inflammation).
(ii) Muscle wasting: Effectiveness of phytochemicals on muscle damage and muscle wasting making use of rodent models and human subjects with either HIV/AIDS or metabolic syndrome or excessive psychological stress. Role of cytokines in upregulation of the ubiquitin proteasome activity; interactions between cytokines and glucocorticoids.
(iii) Muscle fatigue: Role of hypoxia in AMPK activation and subsequent phosphorylation of enzymes involved in ATP maintenance; role of hypoxia in muscle catabolism and apoptosis; metabolic responses to sprinting.
(iv) Muscle characteristics and elite sport performance: Fibre type transformation; capillarisation; muscle strength and imbalances in muscle strength; peak muscle power.
(v) Muscle adaptation: Effects of high intensity training intervention on adaptations in performance, muscle biochemical characteristics, the immune system and the endocrine system.
