Bianca Joseph is a truly deserving recipient of the Rectors award for succeeding against all odds. Despite incredible social and financial disadvantages, Bianca has managed to maintain an aggregate of 72% for her undergraduate degree studies.

She completed her matric at Bergrivier High School in Wellington where she was the headgirl during matric. Her focus remained not only on academic matters but her sport and social commitment is also well developed. Bianca has an undeniable love for cricket. She has kept score for many significant matches including the World Cup matches in 2003. She is also a grade 2 cricket referee and holds a level one cricket coaches' qualification. She is very involved in church work, mainly through the His Peoples' ministry and has visited Zambia and Namibia, in 2004 and 2005, respectively. Her work in these two countries has revolved around work with AIDS orphans in Zambia and facilitating church networks between South Africa and Namibia. Her local work has included helping to build homes for Habitat for Humanity, mentoring young women, and being involved in youth development in the Klapmuts community on an ongoing basis.

During 2006 Bianca will be conducting research on employment patterns of BPsych counsellors in South Africa for her Masters degree in Psychology.
