Rashid Begg lectures classical social theory, sociology of communication and social institutions. He is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Toronto, and his research examines Afrikaner Calvinism as a case study in the Weber Thesis project. His doctoral specialist area is in sociology of religion with a cognate specialty in history. His primary methodological interest is historical sociology. In the department he focuses on sociology of religion and is presently the South African Sociological Association's convener on religion.
