Cherryl Walker has extensive research as well as applied experience in rural development, land reform and gender studies, spanning the academic, government and NGO sector. She is interested in the intersection of issues around land claims, landscape, memory and identity; she has also begun to teach and write in the field of environmental sociology. Her most recent book is Landmarked; Land Claims and Land Restitution in South Africa (Jacana Media, 2008 and Ohio University Press, 2009). She is a member of the International Advisory Board of the Journal of Peasant Studies and serves on the Editorial Board of the journal Social Dynamics . From 1995 to 2000 she served as Regional Land Claims Commissioner for the province of KwaZulu Natal.
