Renosterveld as Land Use Type

W.P. de Clercq

The objective of this project is characterizing water relations of indigenous renosterveld in respect to current climatic conditions and its sensitivity to climate change.  Water relations of renosterveld will be determined and compared to the water use pattern of winter wheat.  The project is being conducted on a well established research site near to the Voëlvlei Dam in the Western Cape.
The significance of the research lies in using renosterveld as a tool to manage salinity and also prevent a decline in biodiversity.  The research may impact on farming methods and positively towards sustainability in bio-diversity. The study may also impact on management of the water quality of this environment.
