AbstractsThe abstracts of the papers to be presented at the 12th Annual UNESCO/IUPAC Workshop & Conference on Macromolecules and Materials focusing on the following topics:
nano- and biomaterials (synthesis, properties and application),
polymer characterization (special focus on characterization of nanomaterials and nanocomposites),
polyolefins (characterization and structure-property relationships) and

Abstract submission guidelines
- The deadline for submission of poster(s) is 31 Janyary 2013.
- Abstracts should be submitted as a word document (doc.file) via e-mail to the conference secretary: aef2@sun.ac.za
- Poster size: AO (1189mm x 841mm) with Portrait Orientation.
- Please use the following Abstract template as guidance when preparing your abstract - download it as a word file here.
- Graphs, schemes and images can be included in the abstract, but the total length of the abstract may not exceed 1 A4 page.
- English will be the language for all oral and poster presentations.
- Notificiation of acceptance by the Local Organizing Committee will be e-mailed to the author.
- Failure to send abstract to the conference secretary by the presenting author by 1 February 2013 will automatically imply that the abstract will neither be included in the Final Programme nor be printed in the abstract book.
- The organizers will not do any proof reading.
- A poster prize will be awarded to young scientists (MSc / PhD / post-doctoral level) on behalf of the University of Stellenbosch, Department of Chemistry & Polymer Science.
Posters
- Contributors to the Poster Session are kindly asked to be present and available for discussion during the Poster Session.
- Posters can be fixed with double-sided self-adhesive tape that will be available at the site.
- The Poster Session Social Evening will take place on Tuesday, 26 March 2013, 18:00-20:00 @ STIAS Wallenberg Research Centre, wine and snacks will be served (free of charge).
- Posters will be set up on Tuesday, 26 March 2013, throughout the day from 10:00-18:00.
- Posters will be displayed during the full conference period, posters can be removed on Thursday morning, 28 March 2013 before the closing session.
- A poster prize will be awarded to young scientists (MSc / PhD / post-doctoral level) on behalf of the University of Stellenbosch, Department of Chemistry & Polymer Science.
Oral Presentations
- Due to the scheduling constraints the time allocated to opening lecture is 40 minutes, to each invited lecture 20 minutes and to oral presentations 15 minutes, with 5 minutes for discussion included.
- Presenters will have on disposal a digital projector and a PC running Microsoft Powerpoint.
- Speakers are kindly asked to prepare PowerPoint presentations in the format compatible with Microsoft Office 2003.
- Speakers should be present at least 15 minutes before the beginning of the session in which they will speak in order to introduce themselves to the Session Chair.
Publications
- A Book of Abstracts will be provided. Conference proceedings will not be printed but presenters will have the opportunity to print it from the Conference website.
