Arrival at Cape Town Airport

All guest houses offer the following facilities and are available on pre-arrival request:

  • Collection from Cape Town International Airport and transfer to the respective guest house/accommodation
  • Delivery of a rented car to the guest house on request
  • Please note - it is not advisable to use public taxis or trains to and from Cape Town International Airport


Visitors / delegates should exercise caution and be aware of one's surroundings in the evenings and when in central Stellenbosch. It is advisable not to walk alone and to take care of one's personal belongings at all times.

Medical : Emergency Centre

Medi-Clinic Stellenbosch is situated on the banks of the Eerste River in the scenic town of Stellenbosch. The hospital, renowned for its service standards is a multidisciplinary private hospital and the 24-hour emergency service is constantly manned by a professional team who are trained in life-saving techniques and supported by state-of-the-art technology. Seriously ill patients will be treated immediately.

Mediclinic will assist patients in obtaining authorisation for unscheduled/emergency admissions to our hospitals, however patients will remain liable for the claim until such time as a letter of guarantee is issued.
Patients requiring treatment at our casaulty unit, who do not require admission to our in-patients, will be charged on a cash basis at point of service. A copy of the account will be provided.

Health Tips for International Travellers

Please obtain good travel insurance to cover medical expenses if the need arises before travelling to any destination.

South Africa has a relatively salubrious climate and levels of water treatment, hygiene and so forth make it a reasonably safe destination. Tap water is potable throughout the country.

Credit cards/currency

International credit cards such as American Express, Diners Club, Master Card, Visa and their affiliates are accepted in South Africa. The currency used in South Africa is South African Rand (R). R1 = 100 cents.

Most towns have branches of the major national banks and their ATM (automatic teller machine). Most commercial banks are open from 09:00 - 15:30 on weekdays and 08:30 - 11:00 on Saturdays.

Foreign currencies can be exchanged at any commercial bank, Rennies Travel or American Express. Most upmarket hotels provide exchange facilities for their guests. Commission on exchanging money varies.


South African standard Time is two hours in advance of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT +2), one hour in advance of central European winter time and seven hours in advance of United States eastern standard time throughout the year. There are no time zone differences within the country.
