Formally opened on 15 November 2007, the WALLENBERG RESEARCH CENTRE at STIAS provides modern facilities for Fellows, as well as multipurpose CONFERENCE VENUES that bring scholars, researchers and decision-makers together.

The Centre provides venues and state-of-the-art equipment for up to 300 conference guests at a time as well as breakaway rooms. The building's soundproof Auditorium offers an optimal location for concentrated and undisturbed work, while its communal areas encourage optimal interaction for exchanging viewpoints. Air conditioning helps to make the building comfortable during all seasons, especially in the hot summer months.

The water-wise garden is filled with hardy plants, indigenous to the Western Cape. Whenever you are in the Centre, those who work and visit there are constantly aware of the Jonkershoek Valley and the natural beauty surrounding them.

Car Rental Companies: Can be booked at Cape Town International Airport

Car Rental companies servicing the Cape Town airport include Avis, Budget, Thrifty, Europcar, First, Hertz, Sixt and National.  The service counters for each of these companies are situated in both the international and domestic arrivals terminals. GPSs are also available to hire.

When picking up your vehicle, first remember that you will be driving on the left-hand side of the road - similar in Australia and the U.K.

When traveling back to the airport with your rental car, you will exit off the N2 highway and travel to Airport Approach.  Follow signs marked "Lughawe" (airport in Afrikaans).  Signs near the road (and overhead) will mark the direction for car rental returns as you get nearer to the airport.  One thing to note, there is a BP filling station near the airport.  To get there when returning your rental car, you will travel around the traffic circle, crossing the outbound traffic.  Prices may be a little higher for fuel here, but you'll pay less here than you would at the airport car rental area if returning your tank empty.

Other amenities include African souvenir shopping and various fashion and accessories shops for travelers.  Also, a Master Currency changer is situated in the International Terminal - arrivals area.  Do not forget the VAT Refund office.  For all non-South African residents leaving South Africa, you may create a claim to get a refund on VAT for goods purchased in South Africa.
