AE cavallo, Ferdinand I of Naples, AD 1458 - 1494 |
Ferdinand I, king of Naples from 1458 - 1494, was the son of king Alfonso V of Aragon and Sicily. Ferdinand's government in general was not very popular and he became infamous for his iron-fisted conduct of political and financial matters. Copper cavalli were first minted during the reign of Ferdinand in 1472. The obverse usually depicted the king, while the reverse portrayed a horse (cavallo). Obv.
