Flavius Julius Constantius II was the third son of Constantine and Fausta. On the death of Constantine he succeeded to rule the eastern empire in AD 337. Constantius was occupied by war with Persia until AD 350 when peace was declared. He defeated Magnentius in AD 351 and three years later took control of the West. On the verge of a civil war with his cousin Julian (proclaimed emperor in AD 360), Constantius died at Tarsus in AD 361. Obv. Constantius II, diademed and cuirassed bust right, CONSTANTIVS PF AVG.
