AR antoninianus, Marcia Otacilia Severa, AD 244 - 249

Marcia Otacilia Severa, daughter of the Roman governor Otacilius Severus, was the spouse of Philip I. They had two children, Philip II and Julia Severa. Despite continued unrest in the Roman provinces, relative harmony existed during their more tolerant reign which was characterised by improved senatorial agreement and a temporary tolerance in the persecution of the Christian faith. Otacilia Severa wheathered initial allegations of a conspiracy against Gordian III; she received the title Augusta, and survived both the death of Philip I and the murder of her 12 year old son.
