Hilaritas

Hilaritas, the personification of cheerfulness, appears as a reverse type on imperial coins from Hadrian's reign (AD 117) on. She is usually depicted carrying a long palm branch and cornucopia, as portrayed on the reverse of a very debased and eroded antoninianus of Tetricus I. Here the figure of Hilaritas is identified mainly by the legend. Sometimes she also holds a sceptre, scale or anchor. Some coins display Hilaritas surrounded by children.
