AE dupondius, Trajan Decius, AD 249 - 251 |
C. Messius Quintus Traianus Decius succeeded Philip I in AD 249. Decius forced the recognition of traditional state religion and occasioned a general persecution of Christians who had refused to conform. In AD 251 the Goths invaded across the Danube. Decius and his son Herennius both died at Abrittus in Moesia. The coin celebrates Decius' arrival at Rome and his first donative.Obv. Trajan Decius, radiate bust right, C M Q IMP TRAIANVS DECIVS AVG.
