Description
PDM 114

Introduction to development, society and State as foci of Development Management, through an emphasis on:

  • contextualising development (inter-disciplinary nature, poverty and theories)
  • institutional roleplayers in development (pubic sector, private sector, NGOs & unions);
  • Development management in practice (strategies, including integrated development planning and public participation;
  • development management and action research
PDM 314
  • Micro-level strategies of development management practice integrating appropriate development theory, strategy, management and policy principles in a holistic, inter-disciplinary way
  • Integrated development planning (IDP) in the context of Developmental Local Government, through community development, planning and project management at micro-level, functions of the change agent, the Community Development Worker Programme, public participation strategies, the social learning process, capacity building, empowerment and sustainable development at a micro/local government level
  • The relevance of qualitative research and indigenous knowledge systems for community developmement and project management
