Workshop on
Modelling of Cellular Processes

Stellenbosch, 10-14 April 2000

Important!

The 9th BTK Meeting and the Workshop on Modelling of Cellular Processes have passed, and these pages are therefore out of date. They are only kept here for back-reference.

In conjunction with the 9th BTK meeting we are organising this workshop, to be held at the Department of Biochemistry, University of Stellenbosch from Monday 10 April to Friday 14 April 2000. The workshop is aimed at people wishing to gain more experience in the modelling approach to understanding cellular processes.

The workshop is organised by the newly-formed Triple J Group for Molecular Cell Physiology (Jannie Hofmeyr, Jacky Snoep and Johann Rohwer). In addition, the workshop will feature a number of international lecturers (see Programme details below).

Apart from lectures and discussions participants will gain hands-on experience in building their own models with different computer programs, e.g. Scamp, Gepasi, Metatool, Metacon.

Workshop programme

Monday 10 April Morning Introduction to SCAMP and hands-on session (Herbert Sauro, Edinburgh)
Afternoon Introduction to Gepasi and hands-on session (Pedro Mendes, Santa Fe)
Tuesday 11 April Morning Enzyme kinetics for modelling: lecture (Athel Cornish-Bowden, Marseille)
Afternoon Enzyme kinetics for modelling: computer practical (Athel Cornish-Bowden)
Wednesday 12 April Morning Elementary modes and flux analysis in kinetic models: lecture (Johann Rohwer, Stellenbosch)
Afternoon Elementary modes and flux analysis in kinetic models: computer practial (Johann Rohwer)
Thursday 13 April Morning Modelling hierarchically controlled systems: lecture (Hans Westerhoff, Amsterdam and Jacky Snoep, Stellenbosch)
Afternoon Modelling hierarchically controlled systems: computer practical (Hans Westerhoff and Jacky Snoep)
Friday 14 April Morning Kinetic modelling of compartmentalised systems with variable volumes (Jannie Hofmeyr, Stellenbosch)
Modelling of chemostat cultures and its control analysis (Jacky Snoep)
Afternoon Computer practical on morning lectures

The workshop is free for bona fide students (undergraduate and graduate).
