AE as, Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa

Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa befriended Octavian early in his youth. He accompanied Octavian to Rome in 44 BC and prosecuted Longinus, one of the assassins of Caesar. Agrippa took part in the battle of Philippi in 42 BC. In 38 BC he campaigned in Gaul and became consul the following year. Agrippa also founded the naval base at Misenum and fought in Illyria during 35 BC. In 31 BC he commanded the fleet at Naulochus and Actium. Agrippa married Augustus' daughter Julia and received tribunician power in 18 BC. He died in 11 BC on return from his campaigns on the Danube and was buried in Augustus' mausoleum.
Coins usually depict Agrippa wearing either a mural or a rostral crown.
