AR denarius, Clodius Albinus, AD 193 - 195

D. Clodius Septimius Albinus became governor of Britain before AD 193. Septimius Severus appointed him as Caesar - coinage for Albinus from that period (until the break between Severus and Albinus in AD 195) display the obverse legend D. CLOD. SEPT. ALBIN. CAES. When Albinus had himself proclaimed Augustus he moved into Gaul where he was defeated and killed in AD 196. This coin was struck under Septimius Severus.
