AR antoninianus, Vibius Afinius Vendumnianus Gallus Volusianus, AD 251 - 253

Gaius Vibius Afinius Vendumnianus Volusianus was the son of Trebonianus Gallus. When his father became emperor, Volusian was raised to the rank of Caesar and on the death of Hostilian replaced the latter as Augustus and co-ruler. Both father and son were murdered by mutinous troops in AD 253. The antoninianus above differs slightly from the Rome series for both Gallus and Volusian by the use of a different obverse legend - it was probably minted at Viminacium in Moesia.
