1.
Introduction
In
this unit we continue our study of Analytical Geometry, with a focus on
the circle as content, while again reflecting on the processes
or strategies of a Coordinate Geometry approach.
Outcomes |
After
working through this unit you should be able to:
- Derive
and apply the equation for circles, with centre at the origin
of a Cartesian coordinate system.
- Derive
and apply the equation for circles with centre not at the
origin of the coordinate system.
- Transform
the general equation of a circle to the standard form by
completing the square.
- Derive
loci relating to circles.
- Solve
problems involving circles and lines, including tangents
to a circle.
