Department of Biochemistry
The department of Biochemistry is situated in the scenic town of Stellenbosch in the winelands of the Western Cape, South Africa. The department consists of several well equipped laboratories, including a state-of-the-art Electrospray Mass Spectrometry facility (ESMS). Research activities include projects on biologically active natural products, cytochrome P-450 and the steroid hormone system, metabolic control and regulation, antimicrobial peptides, plant hormones and resistance, biological cleaning of industrial membranes and eukaryotic signal transduction and gene expression further details may be found on individual staff members' home pages. Our teaching activities include undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Biochemistry.
