The Bachelor of Consumer Science (Clothing and Textiles) programme prepares you for a career in clothing production and marketing as well as the textile industry of South Africa and gives you the necessary know-how to start and manage your own business.  

You will become knowledgeable in the identification, evaluation and choice of textile products to fulfil to specific consumer requirements.  Furthermore you will learn about fashion trends from ancient times to the present; the clothing behaviour of the individual and groups; the influence of culture on clothing; fashion design, clothing construction, industrial clothing production, marketing of clothes and consumer behaviour. You will have exposure to the infrastructure and functioning of the clothing and textile industry of South Africa and have a chance to develop entrepreneurial skills. 

This four year programme can lead to careers such as clothing or textile buyer, clothing marketer, or quality manager.  After completion of the programme you could also start and manage your own business, thereby making a positive contribution to job creation.
