Annual SAAHE Regional Health Sciences Education Conference: Fri 19 -
Sat 20 May 2006
The
South African Association of Health Educationalists (Western Cape
region) will be holding their 3rd annual Regional Health Sciences
Education Conference at the Faculties of Dentistry and Community &
Health Sciences of the University of the Western Cape in Cape Town.
This conference is a joint initiative of the Universities of Cape
Town, Stellenbosch and the Western Cape, and the Cape Peninsula University
of Technology.
You
are cordially invited to submit abstracts of papers about aspects
of health sciences education i.e., undergraduate education, postgraduate
education and continuing professional development.
Whether you are an experienced researcher, new to research in health
sciences education or just have some interesting, new or exciting
ideas to share, this is the conference for you. You will be able to
present your work, discuss your ideas and network with like-minded
people in a friendly atmosphere.
Abstracts
are invited in two categories i.e., "Research and evaluation"
and "Innovations and work in progress".
Please download the conference
registration form and abstract form here and submit it electronically
as per the instructions in the document. All
submissions are peer-reviewed. The best presentation in the category
"Research and evaluation" from one of the sponsoring institutions
will be awarded a substantial cash prize, to be used in the furtherance
of health sciences education e.g., to fund a project or help fund
participation in an international congress.

Friday, 21 April 2006.
Register
on or before 7 April 2006 for early registration fee!
If
you register before or on 7 April 2006, you qualify for the early
registration fee of R250 per person. The registration fee for late
registration (after 7 April 2006) is R350 per person. Teas and lunches
will be provided.

No national
meetings in health sciences education are currently scheduled for 2006.
Plans are afoot at SAAHE to hold a national meeting in 2007.

International meetings 2006
Ottawa Conference: 20 - 24 May 2006
The
next of the biennial Ottawa Congresses is to be held in New York in
2006. The Ottawa International Conferences on Clinical Competence
are the largest regularly scheduled meetings devoted solely to medical
educators involved in teaching and assessing clinical competence and
clinical skills. More information can be found here.
The
deadline for submissions has been extended to Wednesday,
December 14 2005.
AAMC Research
in Medical Education (RIME) Conference: 27 October - 1 November
2006
The
Annual Research in Medical Education (RIME) Conference is held during
the American Association of Medical Colleges Annual Meeting. The next
conference will be held during the 117th AAMC Annual Meeting in Seattle,
Washington.

10th
Annual IAMSE Conference: 16
- 19 July 2006
The
10th Annual Meeting of the International
Association of Medical Science Educators (IAMSE) will be hosted
by University of Puerto Rico
School of Medicine. These Annual Meetings, like IAMSE itself,
are designed to explore both current trends and future directions
in medical science education.
The
deadline for abstracts is Wednesday,
15 March 2006.
AMEE Conference: 14 - 18 September 2006
The
Association for Medical Education in
Europe's conference is actually an international affair and attracts
1000-odd delegates from across the globe. AMEE's 2006 Conference will
be held in Genoa. The provisional programme is now available online
and registration has started.
The
deadline for abstracts is Friday,
31 March 2006.
ASME Annual Scientific
Meeting: 6
- 8 September 2006
ASME's
2006 meeting is being held at the University
of Aberdeen, UK.
The theme this year is "Patient
safety in undergraduate and postgraduate education: have we got it
right?".
The annual scientific meeting of the Association
for the Study of Medical Education tends to be a more modest affair
than other conferences and attracts participants from the UK for the
most part, although in recent times the profile of the conference
has become more international.

deadline for abstracts is Monday
3 April 2006.
coHEHre
Conference: 22 - 24 March 2006?
Watch
this space for news on coHEHre's annual conference on higher education
in health care. It has been proposed that the meeting be held in Portugal
from 22 - 24 March 2006, but this cannot be confirmed at this stage.
The next meeting may only take place during the northern hemisphere
spring of 2007.
