Overview
Windows on the Wild is the name of the environmental education programme of World Wildlife Fund (US). WOW uses the topic of biodiversity as a “window” to help learners of all ages explore the incredible web of life. WOW
also explores the complexity of biodiversity – and looks at it within scientific,
social, political and economic contexts (Biodiversity Basics, WWF: 1999
p. 12). To this
end, materials produced in the USA are generously shared to serve as capital
to be adapted for use in local contexts, while developers are also encouraged
to develop new materials that respond to local needs. WWF(US) also provides
generous financial support for these international developments. WOW is a collaborative effort among WWF, schools, and community
education organizations--including zoos, aquariums, museums, nature
centers, botanical gardens, science centers and community centers. Through innovative educational materials, training programs, and an array of special events and programs, Windows on the Wild aims to create a nation of critical and creative thinkers who have the knowledge, skills, and commitment to build a more sustainable future. Whether you want to be a better-informed voter or educator, a more effective citizen, or just a person who understands what biodiversity is all about, Windows on the Wild has something for you. WOW offers a variety of programs for educators and the general public, all of which are designed to help you explore fascinating aspects of biodiversity.
