M. Aurelius Carinus, elder son of Carus, was raised to the rank of Caesar in AD 282 and proclaimed Augustus the next year. While he was in charge of the West, he proved to be victorious against the Germans. After the death of his brother Numerian, Carinus withdrew to Rome. He died on the battlefield in AD 285 at Moesia.
