AE antoninianus, M. Claudius Tacitus, AD 275 - 276

   

M. Claudius Tacitus was proclaimed emperor in AD 275. The elderly senator reluctantly accepted the throne and with the aid of his half-brother, Florian, repelled a Gothic invasion. However, after his reign of only six months Tacitus, on his return to Rome, was murdered by mutinous troops.
