MA PROGRAM IN HISTORY (One year – research only) 878
This traditional MA caters for people with a particular research interest. The thesis is of limited scope. Topics are normally restricted to South African history, but could also include studies in the more theoretical aspects of the discipline. The program is entirely research orientated and provides advanced conceptual and empirical training. A minimum enrolment of one year is required.
Admission requirements
To be admitted to this programme candidates must:
- be in possession of a Honours degree in History with a minimum pass mark of 60%;
- negotiate with the Head of the Department on a research topic and the
- appointment of a supervisor for the thesis;
- submit a research proposal for approval by the Department;
- enter into a formal contract with the supervisor, outlining the obligations and responsibilities of both parties.
Written applications, including a complete study record, must normally be submitted before 30 November of each year. Formal application for registration is only necessary once a student has been accepted for a programme.
Students who do not meet the required 60% standard could submit special considerations for admission.
