SCALED ACCELERATEDTRAFFICKING

FOR LABORATORY AND FIELD TESTING

Pavement engineers need failure analysis data to carry out back from the future interpretations of performance properties of different materials and pavement systems.

The MMLS machines are accelerated pavement testing tools applying realistic rolling wheel contact stresses, at a fraction of the cost of full scale APT.

Functions of MMLS Mk3 for Accelerated Trafficking in the Field

- Analysis of residual life of existing pavements, as well as rutting potential, in conjunction with GPR and SASW

- Development of acceptance criteria in terms of rutting for newly constructed asphalt

- Steps towards Performance Guarantee of newly constructed asphalt pavements

- Assistance with long term management of toll road pavements

Functions of MMLS for Accelerated Trafficking in the Laboratory

- Establishment of Transfer Functions for new pavement materials and layer systems in terms of a variety of failure modes

- Pre-screening and ranking of full scale APT matrices prior to commencing full scale tests, in order to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness

- Development of acceptance criteria for mechanical tests for both mix designs and quality control testing, based on performance properties
