Dr. Hennie de Vos (59), senior lecturer in the Department of Psychology, Stellenbosch University, suddenly passed away on Thursday 2 October. Dr. de Vos obtained the degrees BA, BA Honours (Philosophy), BA Honours (Psychology) and MA (Counselling Psychology) at the Stellenbosch University. Later on he also obtained the PhD degree (Psychology) at the University of the Free State. Dr. de Vos was appointed as lecturer in Psychology in 1978 and was in the position of senior lecturer when he passed away.
Dr. de Vos made his mark in the Department of Psychology. He will be remembered as a very capable, dedicated and loyal member of staff who did his work with candour and honesty. He was a man of firm principles and was never afraid to defend his view of matters. But he was also always prepared to listen and exchange ideas. His academic legacy will be remembered and appreciated by his colleagues, students, former colleagues and former students.
Dr. de Vos was also a very good rugby player who in his days played on the wing for Southern Universities and Western Province. He was known for his speed and elusive side-step with which he was able to beat many opponents.
Dr. de Vos is survived by his wife Alet, children Mia, Anjulie and Hendrik and two grandchildren.
