AR antoninianus, Marcus Julius Severus Philippus II
AD 247 - 249

Marcus Julius Severus Philippus II was made Caesar in AD 224 and proclaimed Augustus in AD 249. While his father, Philip I, campaigned against Trajan Decius, the young Philip II remained at Rome where he was killed in AD 249.
This antoninianus was struck after AD 247 when coins of the younger Philip displayed a shortened obverse legend.
