GENERAL INFORMATION

STELLENBOSCH

Being a premier tourist destination, the name Stellenbosch conjures up unique images. History is reflected in many of its neo-Dutch, Georgian and modern Victorian architecture, which compasses simple lines, fine detail and elegant proportions.  Oak trees bear witness to its proud and dignified heritage.  These old trees etched against the white walls of its many old buildings, diffuse the heat of Summer and transform the streets into soft, shady avenues.

The town on the banks of a river in the premier wine producing Jonkershoek Valley is encircled by majestic mountains. There is easy access to nearby fruit farms, mountain ranges and neighbouring rustic towns. Stellenbosch is the ideal location from which to explore the Winelands, Cape Town, the Peninsula and the many tourist attractions the Western Cape has to offer.

Stellenbosch has the oldest Wine Route in the country and, with over 130 farms and cellars, it attracts wine-lovers and tourists from around the world. The wines of the region are of a high standard and regularly win International awards.  Many farms have been passed down through generations and
most Estates have beautifully maintained homes and gardens that are open to visitors. In the past few years foreign investors have acquired farms and have introduced new ideas and blends that are greatly appreciated by the wine loving public.  Wine tours are a must for visitors and offer a choice of old charm or modern tourist orientated estates catering for large groups. Farms are surrounded by the natural beauty of some of the most spectacular mountains of the Cape. With the
vineyards as a backdrop the ever changing colour of the leaves constantly transform the  landscape.
