Here is an activity I use with my students:
Click on the "Launch Java graph!" button to open the Java applet.
Click on the slider ... Describe how different values of the parameter k influences the function f1(x) = x3 + kx.
Explain how and why k influences f1(x):
» by viewing f1(x) as the sum of two functions f2(x) and f3(x)
» by viewing f1(x) as the product of two functions f2(x) and f3(x).
In our last example below the applet shows the three graphs making up f(x) = sin(A*x) + cos(B*x) with no options for the viewer to change. Lean on the sliders!
