Alpine Heath Resort
 

The Alpine Heath Resort is located in the Northern Drakensberg in KwaZulu-Natal
province in South Africa. The resort is adjacent to the Royal Natal National Park,
and is about 3 hours drive from Johannesburg and about 2.5 hours drive from Durban.

Recreational Activities

 

Please refer to www.alpineheath.co.za for information on the various sporting facilities that are available at the Alpine Heath Resort.

In addition, hiking at the nearby Royal Natal National Park is highly recommended.  There is an entry charge.

Depending on interest, a visit to the Drakensberg Hydro-Electric Scheme will be arranged.  No costs are involved.

The Raptor Display Centre is located about an hour away from the resort near Catkin Peak. Shows are held daily at 10h30 where you will see a number of South African raptors in free flight. Contact Mr Greg McBey at  (036) 468-1752 to make a reservation.  Costs are R30 per adult.

On Friday 21 January at 20h00, Mr Raymond Heron will give a presentation on The South African War. You will have an opportunity to sign on for a tour to the Spioenkop Battlefield Sites for Sunday 23 January early morning.

  A special tour will be arranged for interested persons starting from Friday 14 January 2005 where you are assured a discounted rate. You will need to fly to Durban on Friday 14 January 2005 (at your personal cost).  Please make all arrangements in advance with the tour operator. The tour includes a visit to Durban, a cultural visit to Zululand, The Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve, The Saint Lucia Wetlands (World Heritage site) and some of the historical battlefield sites (Anglo-Zulu, Zulu-Boer, Boer-Anglo).

You will need to arrange with your tour operator your drop-off at the Alpine Heath Resort on the 18 January 2005 in the afternoon. Executours is flexible, and they will tailor a tour for your personal needs either before or after the Summer School.
