About the Research Unit for Human Factors in Virtual Reality
Our Vision
It is the vision of the Virtual Reality group to become a
"Centre of Excellence for Human Factors in Virtual Reality Systems".
We aspire to inspire human development within the University of Stellenbosch
and assosiated institutions through a multi-diciplinary approach.
It is the vision that the members of the group will be independent researchers,
readers and writers, creative thinkers and decision makers. In addition,
through participation, they would have begun to develop socially, mentally
and emotionally as they advance through the period of their educational
pursuit and finally become productive citizens in the global society.
Our Mission
The mission of the Research Unit for Human Factors in Virtual Reality is to develop the
theoretical background to acquire deeper knowledge and understanding
of both state of the art technology as well as the related "human issues"
to achieve optimisation of the design and application of the
technology to achieve successful and cost effective systems.
This will be done through experimental as well as observational
work with the aim of contributions toward excellence in the production and
creation of new concepts, products, processes and systems.
The work and outputs of the group will also strive to make recommendations
towards the improvement of systems already in place.
The research activities will further aim at achieving national partnerships with
institutions involved in developments. The group will aim towards the establishment of
partnerships, in particular, with the objective to facilitate transfer of knowledge
to South Africa that may benefit the local industry and research institutions
likely to implement the technology in the future.
In association with local industry and in co-operation with associated
disciplines, research will be conducted into the development of products and
services with export potential for South Africa.
