        22 OCT THE CAPE WINELANDS
Today we head some 50 kms east of the city to explore the mountains and
tranquil countryside of the Cape Winelands. Here old Cape Dutch wine farms
nestle beneath towering mountain peaks. During the morning we’ll
have a wine tasting at one of these estates. We visit the historical town
of Stellenbosch (the second oldest town in South Africa after Cape Town),
and do a short town tour by coach to show you the highlights. Then you
will have free time to stroll along the quaint streets lined with old
white-washed houses and shaded by oak trees, and browse in the many antique,
curio, art and gift shops. Your guide will help you find the places you
want! This is a nice time to have a light lunch on one of Stellenbosch’s
delightful small restaurants and coffee shops. In early afternoon we continue
on to the valley of Franschhoek, still retaining the French atmosphere
and influence brought by early settlers. We visit another classic wine
estate and the charming village –which is surrounded by high mountains.
Later we head back to Cape Town, seeing superb views over the whole city
