“We are all living with HIV. It is everyone’s problem.” This wake-up call from well-known entertainer Soli Philander set the tone for the Africa Centre’s third annual World AIDS Day gala concert in the Artscape Opera House. Philander acted as compere, and true to form brought a laugh to the audience right through the evening. He also used the opportunity to remind people on a serious note of the global relevance of HIV and AIDS. Pictured here with him is director and producer Jimmie Earl Perry, who was joined on stage by the music group Kunjalo, the Dance for All Youth Company, singers Rouchelle Liedemann and Verity and comedian Dave Levinsohn. The concert was hosted in partnership with the Western Cape Provincial Government and celebrated the good work done in the field of HIV and AIDS. Even though the evening was filled with fun and entertainment, it set the path for mobilising more and more people.

United in the name of HIV and AIDS :
These students are all very excited about completing
the PDM course and going back to their region
to make a difference. from left are Nozuko Mtshatsha,
Bukelwa Matomane, Monica Mpati, Pumla Soyizwaphi
and Nofezile Raziya. They come from Umtata in
South Africa's Eastern province. A total of
223 students entered the PDM course for 2008.

As you walk into the church of JL Zwane
on a township nine miles from Cape Town, aside from
the bright yellow walls, one of the first things you
notice is there is no cross at the front. Instead,

for AIDS Awareness concert that took place on 1 June,
the second concert coming up on 31 August is bound
to mobolise even more people to spread the word about
HIV and AIDS and in this way transform lives..
